Urine Pregnancy Test

A fast urine pregnancy test (UPT) can be performed at the bedside. It determines the level of the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) in the urine. Similar to home pregnancy test kits in the operation, the one used in hospitals is somewhat more dependable.

There are two different kinds of pregnancy tests: one uses urine samples and the other uses blood samples. Both tests look for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin's beta subunit (hCG). For the qualitative detection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine for the early diagnosis of pregnancy, the urine pregnancy test (UPT) is a simple and quick chromatographic immunoassay.

UPT is carried out by obtaining a urine sample, which is typically administered to a test kit using a disposable plastic dropper. A change in colour will indicate a positive pregnancy test, and nearly always, a "control" region or symbol will also change colour as a secondary assurance that the test is indeed accurate.

Your doctor could do a urine pregnancy test if they think you might be pregnant or if you think you might be pregnant. A missing or late period (amenorrhea), breast heaviness or soreness, or nausea and vomiting are all common pregnancy symptoms (morning sickness).

Women of reproductive age who have stomach pain and who need an abdominal X-ray or pelvic X-ray due to radiation concerns for an unborn child frequently get the test routinely.

Pregnancy can be identified early, between 7 and 12 days after conception, using blood pregnancy tests (beta HCG). whereas it takes around two weeks after conception for urine tests to reveal pregnancy.

In addition to costing more money and taking longer to get results, blood pregnancy tests are more costly than urine tests.

Since doctor-performed urine pregnancy tests are generally regarded as being quite trustworthy, a blood pregnancy test is typically not required to confirm the result.

A hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is created immediately after fertilization by the placenta in development. hCG can be found in urine as early as 7 to 10 days following fertilization in a healthy pregnancy. By the first missed period, hCG levels usually approach 100mIU/mL and peak at 100,000–200,000 mIU/mL about 10–12 weeks into pregnancy. HCG is a great marker for the early identification of pregnancy since it appears shortly after conception and then increases in concentration during the early stages of gestation.

· When the UPT is positive, a pregnancy is present.

· The lady is NOT pregnant if the UPT is NEGATIVE.

A laboratory may occasionally classify a test as "weakly positive" or "indeterminate." This often occurs when there is only a very little quantity of the HCG hormone in the urine, such as very early in pregnancy or after a miscarriage. In this situation, a blood test would be helpful, or you might repeat the urine test in a day or two to get the result.
